Ingredients

  • 900 g 31.7 oz Water

  • 700 g 24.7 oz Sugar

  • 200 g 7 oz Butter (or corn oil)

  • 230 g 8 oz Corn Starch

  • 1 pinch 1 pinch Salt

  • 250 g 8.8 oz White almonds, roasted

  • 1 tsp 1 tsp Vanilla extract

Recipe directions

  • Add the water, 450 g (15.9 oz) of the sugar, the corn starch in a bowl and mix well.
  • Place a pot over heat and gradually add 200 g (7.1 oz) of the sugar το caramelize.
  • Add half of the butter (or corn oil) and mix.
  • Add the mixture of corn starch, sugar and water and mix well.
  • Add the vanilla extract and mix.
  • Add the roasted almonds and mix.
  • Gradually add the rest of the butter (or corn oil) while mixing.
  • Transfer the mixture to a baking pan and spread it evenly.
  • Sprinke 50 g (1.8 oz) of sugar over the halva. Caramelize the sugar using a blowtorch or under the broiler of the oven.
