Greek Cheese Pies with Easy Yogurt Dough (Kourou Style)

If you’re a fan of savory pastries, you’re going to love these Greek Cheese Pies with Easy Yogurt Dough—also known in Greece as “Tyropites Kourou.” These individual cheese pies are a staple of Greek baking, loved for their rich, buttery dough and creamy feta filling. What makes them even better is how simple and quick they are to prepare, using everyday ingredients like yogurt, flour, and olive oil—no yeast or waiting for dough to rise.

The dough, known as kourou, is incredibly forgiving and doesn’t require a mixer or long kneading. It comes together in minutes, forming a soft and pliable base that’s easy to shape and fill. The secret to the dough’s tender texture is the combination of yogurt and butter (or margarine), making it melt-in-your-mouth flaky once baked. We also add a touch of graviera cheese in the dough itself for an extra layer of Greek flavor.

These mini cheese pies are ideal for lunchboxes, party platters, picnics, or even a grab-and-go breakfast. They can also be frozen after baking and reheated in minutes, making them a perfect make-ahead snack. The filling is kept traditional—crumbled feta cheese, rich and salty, packed into every bite. For added flavor, you can mix in herbs or even a pinch of black pepper.

Whether you’re looking for a family-friendly recipe, something new to serve at your next gathering, or a taste of traditional Greek street food, these mini tyropitakia are sure to impress. Simple to make, impossible to resist—prepare a batch and watch them disappear!
