Ingredients for the Greek Easter Cookies

  • 3 3 Eggs

  • 300 g 10.6 oz Sugar

  • 300 g 10.6 oz Milk

  • 150 g 5.3 oz Butter

  • 3 3 Vanillins

  • 1 pinch 1 pinch Mastic Powder

  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 tsp Mahlab (optional)

  • Zest of 2 Oranges

  • 15 g 0.5 oz Baking Powder

  • 1 kg 2.2 lb All-Purpose Flour

  • 1 1 Egg and Water (Egg wash)

How to make Greek Easter Cookies

  • In a bowl, add the eggs, sugar, and mix.
  • Add the milk, room temperature butter, orange zest, vanilla extracts, a pinch of powdered mastic, mahlab, and mix well.
  • Mix the baking powder with the flour and gradually add them to the mixture while stirring.
  • Mix well until dough.
  • Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  • Shape the cookies in the desired pattern and place them on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between them.
  • Beat an egg with a little water and brush the cookies with the mixture.
  • Preheat the oven to 180 C (355 F) and bake for about 20 minutes.
