Ingredients

  • 700 g 5 1/2 cup All-Purpose Flour

  • 2 tbsp 2 tbsp Olive Oil

  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp Sugar

  • 1 tsp 1 tsp Salt

  • 8 g 2 1/2 tsp Dry Yeast

  • 370 g 1 1/2 cup Lukewarm Water

  • Olive oil, for brushing

How to make Greek Pita Bread

  • In a large bowl, add the water, sugar, yeast, olive oil, flour, and salt.
  • Knead until you have a smooth dough that does not stick to your hands.
  • Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  • Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces.
  • Place one piece on a floured surface and roll it out with a rolling pin into a round pita shape.
  • Repeat with the remaining dough pieces.
  • Using a round stick or skewer, gently press lines every 2 cm (ยพ inch) horizontally and vertically over each pita.
  • Place the pitas on a baking tray lined with parchment paper lightly sprayed with olive oil.
  • Brush the tops lightly with olive oil.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 400ยฐF (200ยฐC), conventional heat, for 10 minutes, until lightly puffed and just set.
  • Alternatively, the pitas can also be cooked in a skillet, if preferred.
  • Transfer the baked pitas to a plate and cover them with a towel to keep them soft and fluffy.
