Ingredients

  • For the Dough
  • 700 g 24.7 oz Plain Flour

  • 6 6 Eggs

  • 50 g 1.8 oz Ouzo

  • 50 g 1.8 oz Milk

  • 50 g 1.8 oz Sugar

  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 tsp Salt

  • Juice of half a Lemon

  • For the Syrup
  • 400 g 14 oz Water

  • 400 g 14 oz Sugar

  • 300 g 10.5 oz Honey

  • Juice of half a Lemon

  • 1 1 Cinnamon Stick

  • Extra Ingredients
  • Vegetable Oil (for frying)

  • Cinnamon Powder

  • Crushed Walnuts

How to make Greek Honey Rolls (diples)

  • In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, milk, ouzo, lemon juice, and salt. Gradually add flour while mixing until a soft, non-sticky dough forms.
  • Wrap the dough in cling film and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface into thin sheets about 2 mm thick. Trim the edges for straight lines and cut into large strips. Cover the strips with a towel to prevent drying.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry one strip at a time, folding it into thirds with tongs as it fries. Cook until golden and transfer to paper towels to drain excess oil.
  • For the Syrup
  • In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, lemon juice, and a cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil and simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, add honey, and stir well.
  • To Assemble
  • Dip the fried diples into the syrup, allowing them to absorb the liquid.
  • Arrange on a platter and optionally sprinkle with crushed walnuts and cinnamon powder for garnish.
