Ingredients

  • 5 5 Eggs

  • 380 g 13.4 oz Sugar

  • 250 g 8.8 oz Butter

  • 500 g 17.6 oz Self raising flour

  • 7 g 0.2 oz Baking powder

  • 2 2 Vanillins

  • 20 g 0.7 oz Cocoa powder

  • 290 g 10.2 oz Milk

  • 30 g 1.1 Milk (to add in cocoa)

  • A pinch of salt

  • Icing sugar (to serve)

Recipe directions

  • In the mixer’s bowl add the eggs, sugar and beat until cream.
  • Add a pinch of salt, the vanillins, the butter at room temperature and beat for about 5 minutes.
  • Gradually add the milk.
  • In a separate bowl mix the flour with baking powder and gradually add it to the mixer’s bowl while beating.
  • Grease a round cake pan with butter and lightly dust it with flour.
  • Pour some of the cake mixture into the cake pan.
  • In a separate bowl, transfer a portion of the cake mixture, sift in the cocoa powder, and stir until well combined. Add the milk intended for the cocoa and continue stirring until the mixture is smooth. Pour this cocoa mixture into the cake pan.
  • Pour the rest of the cake mixture into the cake pan.
  • Spread the mixture evenly with a spatula.
  • Preheat the oven to 150 C (300 F) and bake for 60 minutes.
  • Once the cake is done baking, allow it to cool. Then, remove it from the pan and sift icing sugar over the top.
