Ingredients

  • 1500 g 53 oz Beef

  • 100 g 3.5 oz Olive oil

  • 2 2 Onions (finely chopped)

  • 2-3 2-3 Carrots (diced)

  • 1 1 Red bell pepper (diced)

  • 3 cloves 3 cloves Garlic (finely chopped)

  • 2 tbsp 2 tbsp Tomato paste

  • 200 g 7.1 oz Tomato juice

  • 1/3 glass 1/3 glass Red wine

  • 1 glass 1 glass Hot water

  • Salt & Pepper

  • Paprika

How to make Greek Beef Stew

  • Place a skillet over heat. Add olive oil to cover the bottom of the skillet.
  • Add the beef to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes on each side. Then reduce the heat, transfer the beef to a bowl.
  • In the same skillet, add finely chopped onions, carrots diced into small cubes, bell pepper diced into small cubes, and sauté until the vegetables soften.
  • Then add the finely chopped garlic and continue sautéing for about 3 minutes.
  • Return the beef to the skillet, season with salt, pepper, and add paprika. Stir a little.
  • Deglaze the dish with wine. Wait for 1-2 minutes for the alcohol to evaporate.
  • Add the tomato paste, tomato juice, and mix.
  • Add the water, cover the skillet with its lid. Reduce the heat to low and let the stew simmer for two to two and a half hours.

1. Searing the Beef:

  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil to cover the bottom.
  • Sauté the beef for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. Transfer the beef to a bowl and set aside.

2. Sautéing the Vegetables:

  • In the same skillet, add finely chopped onions, diced carrots, and bell pepper. Sauté until the vegetables soften.
  • Add finely chopped garlic and sauté for an additional 3 minutes.

3. Bringing it All Together:

  • Return the seared beef to the skillet and season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Stir to combine.
  • Deglaze the skillet with red wine, allowing the alcohol to evaporate for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add tomato paste and tomato juice, mixing well.
  • Pour in hot water, cover the skillet, and reduce the heat to low.
  • Let the stew simmer for two to two and a half hours, allowing the flavors to meld together into a sumptuous Greek delight.
