This easy recipe for homemade sandwich bread produces soft, fluffy loaves that are perfect for toast or sandwiches. Simple ingredients and a straightforward method will give you bakery-quality bread at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg 2 lb Bread Flour

  • 580 g 20.5 oz Water (lukewarm)

  • 30 g 1 oz Sugar

  • 50 g 1.8 oz Fresh Yeast (or 16 g / 0.6 oz Dry Yeast)

  • 15 g 0.5 oz Salt

  • 50 g 1.8 oz Vegetable Oil

How to make Toast or Sandwich Bread

  • Preparing the Starter
  • In a bowl, add the sugar, yeast, a bit of lukewarm water, and stir gently to dissolve the yeast.
  • Add 3 tablespoons of flour, mix, and set aside for 10 minutes to activate the yeast.
  • Making the Bread
  • In the mixer bowl, add the salt, the remaining flour, the vegetable oil, the remaining water, and the activated yeast. Knead in the mixer for at least 5 minutes.
  • Next, transfer the dough to your work surface and knead it by hand for 1 minute.
  • Form the dough into a ball and score a cross on top.
  • Place the dough in a bowl, cover it with plastic wrap, and let it rest for at least 40 minutes to rise.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it lightly to deflate.
  • Divide the dough into two equal parts.
  • Knead each part lightly by hand and press to remove any excess air.
  • Shape the dough to fit into the loaf pans.
  • Grease the loaf pans with vegetable oil and place the dough inside, pressing lightly to fit well.
  • Let the dough rise for a while.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (355°F) and bake for 35-40 minutes top and bottom heat.
  • Once baked, allow the bread to cool in the pans.
