These Fried Cheese Pies are made from scratch with a simple dough, filled with cheese and optional savory additions, and fried until golden and crispy. Enjoy them as a delicious appetizer, snack, or even a light meal.

Ingredients

  • For the Dough
  • 500 g 17.6 oz All Purpose Flour

  • 300 g 10.6 oz Water (lukewarm)

  • 1 tsp 1 tsp Salt

  • 40 g 1.4 oz Olive Oil

  • Juice of half a Lemon

  • 100 g 3.5 oz Olive Oil (extra)

  • For the Filling
  • 200 g 200 Mixed Cheese

  • 150 g 150 Bacon

Recipe directions

  • In a large bowl, add the flour, lemon juice, salt, olive oil, and water, and knead for 2-3 minutes.
  • Gather the dough in the center of the bowl and drizzle a little olive oil on top. Let the dough rest for 20 minutes.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 1 minute.
  • Divide the dough into 6 equal parts.
  • Roll out each piece of dough with a rolling pin to a thickness of about one centimeter.
  • Spread the cheese, bacon, or any other desired filling on one half of the dough.
  • Fold the dough over and seal the edges using your fingers.
  • Place the cheese pies on parchment paper.
  • Add vegetable oil to a pan and place it over medium heat. Wait until the oil is well heated.
  • Fry the cheese pies on both sides until golden brown.
