Ingredients

  • Dough
  • 1 kg 8 cup All-purpose flour

  • 16 g 2 tbsp Dry yeast

  • 130 g 2/3 cup Sugar

  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp Ground Cinnamon

  • 15 g 1 tbsp Salt

  • 60 g 1/4 cup Sunflower Oil

  • 600 g 2 1/2 cup Lukewarm Water

  • 300 g 2 cup Black Raisins

  • For Brushing
  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp Sugar or grape molasses (petimezi)

  • 1 glass 1 glass Lukewarm Water

  • Sesame Seeds, for sprinkling

How to make Vegan Raisin Buns

  • In a large bowl, combine the lukewarm water and sugar and stir until dissolved.
  • Add the dry yeast, sunflower oil, cinnamon, and raisins. Mix well.
  • Add the salt and gradually incorporate the flour while mixing continuously.
  • Knead until a soft and elastic dough forms.
  • Lightly oil the bowl, place the dough inside, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  • Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently to deflate.
  • Divide the dough into portions weighing 80–130 g (3–4.5 oz) each.
  • Shape each portion into round buns and place them on a parchment-lined baking tray.
  • Let the buns rest for about 20 minutes.
  • In a bowl, mix the water with sugar or petimezi.
  • Brush the buns with the mixture and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C), conventional heat, for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown.
